Our Toronto manufacturing client is seeking an experienced and resourceful leader to manage their shipping and receiving department. This position is located the Vaughan facility and the successful individual is responsible for managing the shipping/receiving team members, maintaining KPI’s, implementing logistics processes, along with continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring safety requirements are met. 
The ideal candidate would have prior manufacturing and logistics management experience, be a team player, be able to work independently when required, has the ability to work with people, coach, teach and mentor a team. 
The Role: 
  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate daily operations  
  • Oversee the scheduling and dispatching of vehicles and goods 
  • Monitor department's performance, prepare reports for senior management, and offer improvements based on the metrics 
  • Arrange for shipping documentation and the tracking and tracing of goods in transit 
  • Overseeing, mentoring and empowering logistics team  
  • Overseeing order processing and ensuring accurate and timely fulfillment 
  • Collaborating with other departments to integrate and improve logistics within business systems 
  • Sourcing carriers and transportation solutions with a focus on negotiating the best service at the lowest cost 
  • Identifying and implementing cost savings initiatives 
  • Manage and maintain our internal truck fleet 
  • Successfully negotiate cost effective freight contracts 
  • Effectively manage the scheduling and oversight of all in-bound and out-bound trucks (both internal and external) 
The Ideal Candidate: 
  • Some related post - secondary education and or previous management experience in a manufacturing/warehouse/logistics setting. 
  • 5+ years hands on shipping, delivery and receiving experience as well as practical and theoretical experience and  
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing process principles and prior experience implementing them would be an asset 
  • Prior experience managing in a Shipping and/or Warehouse Department within house or 3rd party delivery drivers and fleet management 
  • Proven people management/leadership skills 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong organizational skills along with a sense of urgency and personal accountability. 
  • Computer knowledge (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook) is required
