Our client, a well-established packaging materials manufacturer is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to join their Markham facility. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated Maintenance Supervisor with a strong mechanical/electrical background who is ready to step into a lead role overseeing a small team.  This position will still have a hand-on technical responsibility but the opportunity to grow your leadership skills and PM Planning experience.

Broad Purpose
Provides a safe, comfortable operating environment by directing installation, maintenance, and repair of machines, tools, equipment and utility systems

Responsibilities:

  • Assess current and future maintenance needs by collaborating with management, engineering, production teams, technicians, and skilled trades personnel.
  • Manage financial objectives by adhering to maintenance budgets, scheduling expenses, analyzing variances, and implementing corrective measures.
  • Ensure smooth production operations by prioritizing and scheduling repair, maintenance, and installation of machinery, tools, and equipment.
  • Assign and oversee maintenance staff, ensuring completion of tasks and monitoring work outcomes.
  • Support product development and process improvements by working with management and engineers to evaluate equipment needs and modifications.
  • Oversee utility systems, including heat, steam, electric power, gas, and air, ensuring proper installation, modifications, and maintenance.
  • Develop and refine preventive maintenance programs by analyzing production, quality control, and maintenance reports, and inspecting equipment for operational efficiency.
  • Enforce maintenance programs, operational policies, and personnel procedures to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality control teams to resolve maintenance-related issues.
  • Promote a safe and clean work environment by enforcing health and safety regulations.
  • Lead and support maintenance staff through training, coaching, performance management, and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices by attending workshops, reviewing professional literature, and networking with industry professionals.
  • Contribute to overall team success by taking on related duties and projects as assigned.
  • Serve as a backup for Maintenance Supervisors from alternate departments or locations when necessary, as designated by the Maintenance Manager.
Qualifications:
  • 3 to 5+ years of supervisory experience in a maintenance role.
  • Certified trade license or post-secondary diploma/degree in a technical field.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing equipment and maintenance best practices.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably in paper packaging or a related industry.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Financial and budgeting skills to manage costs and analyze reports.
