The Maintenance Engineering Manager is responsibility for the overall maintenance of the manufacturing facilities and equipment to keep them in optimum shape.  They coordinate and supervise the activities of the Maintenance Department and associated Contractors. This individual is also responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining the Preventative Maintenance System to ensure that all equipment is installed and maintained in safe, good working order with minimum disruption or downtime. The ideal candidate has a hands-on style of management that will help guide, coach and mentor the team.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for supervising, coaching, mentoring and leading Maintenance Staff to deliver on key performance indicators that will ensure safety, eliminate breakdowns, and operate equipment and systems efficiently and at the lowest possible cost to achieve production expectations.
  • Responsible for ensuring all Contractors brought in to do work are in compliance
  • Ensures equipment is safe to operate and in compliance with the requirements
  • Works closely with operations to ensure equipment and systems are available when needed and working at required performance and quality expectations.
  • Provide input and manage implementation, start-up, training and the successful closing of specific projects.
  • Keep abreast of new technologies and applications in order to make recommendations and successfully implement as approved for the continuous improvement of the manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Oversees the application and maintenance of the manufacturing control systems and instrumentation to ensure that the system’s integrity and security are maintained.
  • Support and monitor the operation of plant utilities to include: refrigeration; compressed air; HVAC; power distribution; lighting; water purification; waste water treatment; and boiler systems; ensuring the uninterrupted supply to manufacturing within budgetary guidelines.
  • Provide leadership as a subject matter expert in regards to safety in the designated area of responsibility.
  • Execute a preventative maintenance program and create a maintenance culture that reacts with a sense of urgency to downtime issues in a multi-shift operation.
  • Implement and support Continuous Improvement (CI) strategies in partnership with the Leadership Team to improve performance in Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost
  • Effectively lead teams in the use of lean tools (Poke-a-Yoke, Kaizen, Kanban, 5S, VSM, FMEA)
 
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of maintenance experience with a preference given to those coming from an industrial or building products manufacturing environment
  • Post-Secondary education, with training in engineering or related discipline
  • Strong self-motivator with a commitment to achieving excellence
  • Exhibit sound judgement with excellent decision-making, influencing and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to employee health and safety
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a leadership role
  • Implement and support Continuous Improvement (CI) strategies in partnership with the Leadership Team to improve performance in Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost
  • Effectively lead teams in the use of lean tools (Poke-a-Yoke, Kaizen, Kanban, 5S, VSM, FMEA)
  • Thorough understanding of preventive/predictive/corrective maintenance principles and technologies and performs all general maintenance duties to avoid possible failures and malfunctions of all equipment in the plant.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching & conflict management skills
  • Demonstrated experience with problem solving and troubleshooting (mechanical, electrical, automation) Experience in the maintenance of automated equipment, and PLC sensor-based equipment is an asset
  • Possess excellent organization and communication skills.
