Commercial Property Accountant

Position:  Commercial Property Accountant
Location:  North York, ON – In-Office
Salary:  $70-85,000K + Benefits, RRSP

Our client is an established mid-sized provider of development, construction, leasing, and property management services, and they are looking to add a Property Accountant to their team in North York, ON to support their accelerated growth.

Position Overview:

The Property Accountant will be a key member supporting the real estate team. In this role, you will provide accounting and administrative support and ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of the department.  This role will report into the Director of Finance.  Our client is looking for a passionate, motivated property accountant with strong leadership skills that is looking to advance and grow in their career.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and distribute accounts receivable reports on a regular basis, ensuring accuracy and completeness of tenant ledgers payments.
  • Post rent receipts and other payments promptly and accurately to tenant accounts.
  • Prepare accurate tenant chargebacks on a timely basis.
  • Work closely with property management, leasing, and accounting teams to resolve tenant issues and disputes.
  • Work on Yardi Voyager, to reconcile charges and payments, enter transaction and ensure tenant ledgers are up to date and correct.
  • Perform bank deposits, reconcile receipts, NSFs, charges.
  • Provide administrative support and carry out administrative duties such as filing, data entry, typing, copying, binding, scanning etc. as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for improving service levels and implement programs for improvements.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations regarding areas related to assigned work.
  • Conduct detailed tenant AR Reconciliations as instructed.
  • Prepare all CAM/Tax recoveries reports in accordance with the tenant leases within 90 days of year-end.
  • Provide support for completing budgets for various properties.
  • Ancillary tasks, duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Experience:
  • University or college degree in accounting.
  • CPA or international equivalent or working towards CPA is considered an asset.
  • Strong working and technical experience with Yardi Voyager.
  • Strong understanding of lease agreements, commercial rental billing, and accounts receivable processes.
  • 5 years experience in a similar role in property management company.
  • High Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, also Outlook, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, analytical, administration, and accounting skills
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively working both independently and as part of a cohesive team.
