Our client is seeking a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Technician.


JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for the mechanical maintenance, installation and retrofitting of all Plant equipment and machinery. Monitors the operational capability of Plant equipment. Adjusts the performance of machinery to ensure production runs are executed efficiently, with a high quality product, with minimal waste and downtime. Responsible for building maintenance and facility systems maintenance. Assists in equipment procurement process by providing technical/mechanical input and vendor selection. Performs installation and integration of machinery and auxiliary equipment. Assists with health and safety in the workplace including the implementation of safe working practices.



The Role:
  • Partners with the Plant Manager; assesses and recommends maintenance requirements that are timely and cost effective. Projects annual maintenance costs.
  • Ensures that maintenance logs are complete and maintenance schedules are being followed.
  • Develops and implements a preventative/predictive maintenance program for all equipment and machinery that takes into consideration the needs of Production and scheduling overall.
  • Cleans, lubricates, and performs other routine maintenance work.
  • Performs in-depth maintenance, repairs and/or modifications to machinery and equipment.
  • Uses ingenuity and creativity to repair, build parts and solve mechanical issues. Partners with equipment manufacturers as needed to source unique parts, install upgrades, trouble-shoot and resolve singular problems.
  • Develops a network of preferred supplies; orders parts and equipment, manages the inventory of supplies.
  • Checks, designs, implements and maintains safety devices with respect to equipment and machinery.
  • Tests equipment; ensures it is “safe” and “operator ready” before releasing back to production.
  • Monitors equipment capabilities, uptime, downtime. Provides feedback and suggests improvements.
  • Manages third party inspections/testing and ensures these are done as scheduled/required.
  • Maintains maintenance and inspection records and logs in an orderly and accurate manner.
  • Keeps abreast of new CSA standards and other legislative requirements.
  • Participates in the equipment procurement process providing technical input. Performs integration of new equipment performing and/or overseeing PSR’s as required.
  • Monitors electrical and as well as heating and ventilation systems.
  • Contributes to Health and Safety in the workplace as a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Assesses recommendations related to the safe operation of machinery and/or facilities maintenance from the Joint Health and Safety Committee; takes appropriate action.
  • Responsible for adhering to housekeeping practices.
  • Must follow GMP, Quality, and Health & Safety procedures.
  • Adheres to health and safety practices.
  • Responsible for other duties as required.


The Ideal Candidate:
  • Licensed Industrial Millwright with 5+ years’ work experience preferably in the printing industry.
  • Strong technical and mechanical aptitude to comprehend and resolve machine and manufacturing process problems.
  • In-depth technical knowledge and experience with mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC’s and heating and ventilation systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Able to interface with employees and external suppliers in a confident and professional manner.
  • Self-motivated. Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Strong organization and planning skills.
  • Analytical skills to assess problematic situations. Strong troubleshooting, problem solving and decision-making skills in pressure situations.
  • Ability to multi-task and flex with changing/competing priorities.
  • Computer literate. Skilled in Microsoft Office.
  • In depth knowledge of Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act and workplace hazards.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Listening and mental attentiveness required to understand, resolve issues and repair equipment.
  • Cognitive effort in decision making and resultant benefits and/or potential consequences.
  • Mental and visual concentration for periods of time when undertaking repairs to machinery or equipment.
  • Requires a significant amount of walking and standing. Moderate amount of bending and lifting (i.e. up to 50 lbs).
  • Agility to work in restricted areas of machine and around operating machinery.
