Job Description:
A global utility and infrastructure company (EPC+ utility contractor) is seeking a skilled Project Estimator to join their team in the Calgary office. Role: 
The successful candidate will be responsible for compiling accurate cost estimates and developing budgets for substation projects. If you have a strong background in estimating and a deep understanding of the complexities of substation projects, we encourage you to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare comprehensive estimates by gathering and analyzing data from various sources, collaborating with Engineering support as necessary.
  • Develop proficiency in indirect and conceptual estimating techniques and theories.
  • Review and validate outsourced estimates, working closely with engineers for support and clarification.
  • Incorporate historical data from received estimates, awarded contracts, and final project costs into the cost model.
  • Format estimates in the required reporting format.
  • Review and comprehend Design Basis, Engineering Design Documents, and Basis of Estimate.
  • Develop complete estimates for selected projects, including conducting site visits, performing quantity take-offs, pricing, and presenting estimates for review by cost engineering and management.
  • Provide estimating input on complex "conceptual" transmission projects.
  • Assist non-estimating personnel with their estimating-related requirements.
  • Attend and actively participate in project planning sessions and team meetings, offering valuable input based on estimating expertise.
  • Effectively communicate (both written and oral) with the estimating team, management, clients, and industry contacts.
  • Cultivate and maintain business relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure accurate pricing within estimates.
  • Assist in the development of general and project-specific plans, including execution, sequencing, logistics, and construction and work procedures when needed.
  • Contribute to the development of preliminary project schedules.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Bachelor of Commerce Degree (BCom), Construction Management Certificate, or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.
  • Minimum of 5 years of estimating, cost control, and/or engineering experience, with at least 3 years of estimating experience in projects ranging from $1M to $50M.
  • Solid understanding of construction documents and the ability to assess their level of completeness.
  • Proficient in estimating practices, techniques, and equipment specific to substations.
  • Accurate data input and calculation skills.
  • Familiarity with construction costs, budgets, and project scheduling.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Project, and Excel.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to validate proposals, manage multiple priorities, and work under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify problems and propose effective solutions.
  • Verifiable work references demonstrating professionalism, dependability, results-focus, and ethical behavior.
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, and planning abilities.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt communication style to various audiences, explain complex information clearly, and influence consensus in straightforward situations.
