Our Canadian client in one of the leading manufacturers of heavy metal part products in North America. They’re seeking an organized and motivated Senior Buyer/Planner to join their team. This role
 leads the tactical planning and purchasing functions for production. This role coordinates the planning and procurement of direct materials so that there is an optimal inventory level. The ideal candidate has experience working in a manufacturing environment and has excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

The Role:
  • Responsible for the effective and efficient production planning and purchasing activities including MRP planning parameters maintenances.
  • Initiate work orders and follow up to ensure conformance to schedule for finished good and outside processing operations.
  • Master Planning & Scheduling.
  • Purchasing of inventory items.
  • Provide product availability commitments.
  • Supplier negotiation to achieve lowest total cost.
  • Planning/Purchasing Systems development.
  • Accountable for the accuracy and impact of planning decisions.
  • Liaison between other departments to coordinate product issues that need resolution.
  • Work with new product teams to develop effective product launch plans.
  • Effectively manage product with a shelf life to minimize obsolescence from expired product.
  • Provide planning / schedule commitments and performance reporting.
  • Develop, implement and monitor Planning/Purchasing metrics.
  • Work closely with Marketing, Engineering and Accounting to set product budgets. Track and monitor budget fulfilment for purchase and make assigned categories.

The Ideal Candidate
  • Post-Secondary education in Engineering, Business, Operations or Supply Chain Management is preferred
  • SCMP or APICS designation considered an asset
  • 5+ years of procurement experience within large scale, heavy industry and custom manufacturing
  • Ability to quickly and accurately generate action requirements based on Planning System outputs.
  • Positive and enthusiastic work ethic and attitude.
  • Excellent Spreadsheet skills and proficient use of Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and ERP systems experience required. Understanding of MRP techniques, principles and concepts required.
  • Excellent communication skills required with the ability to communicate appropriately with all levels of the organization.
  • Experience setting up Inventory Planning systems.
