Our client, a custom equipment manufacturer, is seeking a seasoned and knowledgeable Director of Procurement to join their Markham based team. The Director of Procurement will be responsible to successfully lead procurement activities, by ensuring that business objectives are met and exceeded in terms of scope of service, quality standards, risk mitigation, delivery timing and cost. The ideal candidate comes with international sourcing experience and strong negotiation skills that bring the strategic skills needed to be an asset to the organization.

The role:
  • Responsible for sourcing, negotiation, contract management and supplier relationship management
  • Coordinate the activities of buyers in purchasing materials, products, and services and collaborate with other internal stakeholders as needed
  • Establish and implement department and team’s objectives and priorities to align with and support the business goals, promoting collaboration and coordination of procurement activities with key stakeholders
  • Oversee and supervise employees, directing day-to-day activities, to ensure a high standard of service delivery
  • Lead the development and implementation of sourcing strategies to achieve forecasted budgetary goals
  • Conduct assessment of current state and future requirements, analyze market trends and potential suppliers, and identify processes for continuous improvement;
  • Develop long range supply chain and procurement strategies
  • Lead cost reduction initiatives and ensure that effective control measures are in place to address purchase prices variances
  • Generate direct savings by developing and sourcing strategies which will enable cost reduction while ensuring that user needs are met
  • Provide input and recommendations for the development and implementation of processes and procedures aimed at supporting the departmental vision for Procurement and strategic Supply Chain
The Ideal Candidate:
  • Certificate or bachelor’s degree in supply chain/ purchasing, operations management, business administration, or any other related field is preferred
  • Minimum of seven (8) years of experience in purchasing, procurement and strategic sourcing, including the development of business strategies or equivalent
  • Previous experience in custom equipment manufacturing environments would be an asset
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and understand business practices, elicit and define requirements, and identify appropriate solutions and options
  • Excellent negotiation, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with various audiences
  • Sound operational and tactical decision making skills
  • Proven ability to effectively plan, prioritize, document and implement sequential completion of tasks and processes to minimize revenue loss
  • Demonstrated ability to build internal customers/external suppliers relationships to optimize operational performance and process improvement
  • Strong leadership, mentoring and coaching skills along with proven ability to train and develop a successful team
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, Word, Excel, Inventory and ERP systems
