Our Canadian Owned manufacturing client is seeking a qualified Sr. Purchasing supervise the Purchasing Team and its operations within the company, while also fulfilling purchasing responsibilities.


In this role you will be promoting effective internal collaboration with sales, marketing, compliance, demand planning, and supply chain teams to streamline the cost-effective procurement of products and fulfill customer needs on schedule. This includes supervising internal team members to ensure peak performance and delivery excellence while maintaining a constant commitment to improving operational efficiency. Additionally, cultivating strong and productive partnerships with all suppliers.

The Role:

Purchasing - Project Management / Order Processing
  • Ensure all components for product readiness are complete to ensure product orders can be placed on-time based on customer requirements.
  • Ensure all orders to suppliers are placed on time and accurately. Communicate constantly with suppliers to ensure orders will be ready on time.
  • Follow-up on shipments with suppliers, manage lead times, and expedite product if required.
  • Review and process orders and documentation for all direct pick-up orders from overseas / US-based factories.
  • Collect data and produce reports for review with the Supply Chain team for changes in product specifications and end-of-life.
  • Communicate any potential shortages with sales ASAP. Work to proactively avoid shortages and resolve as quickly as possible with creative problem-solving.
  • Cross-training on processes for all customers and suppliers in the supply chain.
  • Work with master data to ensure all product attributes are correctly captured and documented.

Purchasing – Financial Accountability
 
  • Review forecast requirements in SAP and process purchase orders to meet requirements from Customers. Partner with demand planning to ensure forecasts are in- line with business performance.
  • Partner demand planning/ inventory to ensure optimum inventory levels for all products purchased, to meet customer requirements.
  • Anticipate potential shortages and work with demand planning and finance to place appropriate purchase orders.
  • Review any supplier payment issues and resolve them with A/P.

Purchasing – Supplier Management
 
  • Support the sourcing team in discovering new Suppliers / Vendors for current products.
  • Engage with suppliers in getting RFQs processed, analyze quotes received, and negotiate pricing.
  • Review and manage quality issues with suppliers as required.
  • Build effective and collaborative partnerships with all suppliers. Ensure all product requirements are satisfied, forecasts are shared, and orders are placed in a timely manner.

Personal Leadership
 
  • Create an engaging environment where continuous improvement, innovation, communication, and collaboration are embraced and celebrated.
  • Create, implement, monitor, and maintain process and activities to maintain a safe working environment, including quarterly meetings, monthly inspections, completing any relevant certifications, onboarding of new employees and audits.
  • Interact and collaborate with Sales, Strategic Sourcing, 3PL and Warehouse, Purchasing, Demand Planning, IT, Marketing and Finance. Demonstrate best-in-class collaboration activities for team.
  • Attend and participate in internal meetings.

Team Leadership
 
  • Coach and engage direct report for performance including identifying development opportunities and creating a learning plan to make progress against opportunities. Identify and celebrate individual strengths.
  • Ensure direct report complies with policies and performance expectations including task completion, vacation, attendance and more.
  • Communicate, encourage, and promote the Company’s culture and engagement.
  • Participate in the Company performance planning and objective setting process.

Skills and Knowledge
 
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree. Relevant fields of study include Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Hold Professional Certification in Supply chain management Preferred.
  • Extensive experience in Project Management
  • Several years of experience in the consumer goods sector can be particularly valuable, as it provides insight into the specific challenges and dynamics of this industry.
  • Deep understanding of supply chain processes, including logistics, inventory management, and demand planning. Ability to organize and facilitate cross-functional meetings.
  • Understanding of budgeting, cost management, and financial analysis.
  • Ability to negotiate pricing and contracts with suppliers effectively.
  • Familiarity with procurement software and tools and an understanding of emerging technologies in the supply chain domain.
  • A highly motivated individual, the ability to multi-task and prioritize projects, and find creative solutions to meet business objectives, deadlines, and operate independently.
  • High Level interpersonal and leadership skills; must be able to influence and coach across multiple levels within the company.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit, a self-starter who can think innovatively and take the ball and run with it with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to develop an effective and capable team.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Suite and other ERP systems, such as SAP.
