Located in the beautiful area of Tumbler Ridge/Chetwynd in Northern BC, the employer is looking for a skilled Drill and Blast Supervisor to help in the operations of an open pit coal mine!
Primary Purpose
The Drill and Blast Supervisor is responsible for supervising, coordinating and monitoring all drill and blast activities on the mine site.
Duties & Responsibilities
Supervise the mine drill and blast functions.
Coordinate with Mine Manager and engineering to ensure that all D&B priorities are followed according to the plan.
Lead daily lineup and toolbox talks with drillers and blasters.
Review and sign off on the blast pattern designs and pursue optimum efficiency.
Review and sign off on all drill pattern cleanup to ensure safe access for drillers, blasters, and bulk trucks.
Train and evaluate the performance of drillers and blasters in conjunction with the training department to ensure competency.
Review and sign off on all loading instructions.
Work with lead blaster and engineering to design the safest and most appropriate tie-in. Review and sign off final copy before pattern is blasted.
Walk and sign off on all patterns after tied-in and after blasted.
Monitor and validate all supplier invoices for accuracy.
Oversee forecasting and coordinate the availability of all blasting accessories, bulk explosives and drill consumables.
Review all completed Blasting Reports and follow-up on issues identified.
Reconcile delays from Daily Blasting Record and follow-up with internal and external agencies.
Monitor and maintain a record of electronic daily bulk explosives logs to ensure usage accuracy.
Ensure that suppliers provide the proper mix of versus emulsion for optimal fragmentation at lowest cost.
Audit quality control of suppliers bulk mix.
Work with Mine Manager to improve the Drill and Blast activities and meet legal requirements.
Monitor and ensure all equipment is operated safely without damage. Lead all incident investigations and provide solutions when an incident occurs.
Continuously pursue technological methods to improve productivity and lower costs.
Work with maintenance department to ensure all planning and scheduling of all maintenance work for drills, blaster trucks and other equipment is completed in a timely fashion.
Responsible for the timely completion and storage of all blasting documents.
Ensure the 24 hr plan for drilling and blasting is communicated and followed.
Will work principally in the field with some office requirements
Qualifications and Experience
BC Blaster Certification OR a Provisional BC Blaster License (3rd Class, 2nd Class, or 1st Class) AND
Valid Open Pit Shift Boss Certificate OR Provisional Certificate Pit Shift Boss
5 years' blaster experience in an open-pit mining environment preferred

$108,000 - $135,000 Annual Base Salary
