The Director, Communications leads, develops, and executes proactive and reactive communication strategies and initiatives to assist in delivering an effective message to the targeted audience both internally and externally to the company. The role is accountable for Internal Communications, External Communications and Marketing and Brand Management to enhance the businesses reputation with key stakeholders and supporting the execution of corporate business strategy. The Director, Communications will be required to interface closely with all department and project team members.
 
Key Accountabilities:
 
Internal Communications
  • Develop and maintain programs that communicate company strategy, progress, priorities and change initiatives to all staff throughout the organisation (corporate head office, project offices, facilities) to generate awareness and engagement;
  • Manage and write internal corporate communication materials including newsletters; annual reports; announcements; executive notes etc.;
  • Review and revise communication in support of dissemination of information by internal clients to other internal stakeholders such as IT, Operations, Human Resources;
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to plan and implement programs and initiatives such as Investor Day, Breakfast with the CEO, etc.;
  • Supervise the communication tools such as the weekly newsletters, monthly reports, presentations, corporate videos and online content;
  • Support and contribute to the content required for internal employee leader communications, speeches, presentations, and town halls.;
 
External Communications
  • Develop and implement a company-wide communications strategy to complement and enhance the effectiveness of the corporate business strategy;
  • For each jurisdiction, coordinate with Managing Directors and their teams on the creation and management of region-specific communications programs;
  • Media Relations – manage and lead media relations;
  • Serve as principal media liaison and prepare key messages;
  • Assist Investor Relations with, quarterly reports, conference calls and presentations;
  
Marketing and Brand Management
  • Develop and maintain the company social media presence and strategy;
  • Lead corporate social responsibility initiatives including executive and internal presentations, sustainability reporting and stakeholder relations.
  • Develop communication strategy that aligns with strategic vision, objectives and priorities;
  • Identify potential sensitive issues and provide strategic communications advice in accordance with corporate priorities;
  • Support Project teams at head office and the regions in the development, execution, and continuous improvement of project communication and stakeholder engagement plans;
  • Support investment projects in communications, community sponsorship initiatives and in corporate donations
  • Manage the Communications budget;
  • Ensure a clear, consistent message across all media platforms;
  • Track and measure the effectiveness of all communication initiatives.
  • Lead and manage the production of creative brand advertising, including corporate sponsorship and advertisements.
 
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, Media or English preferred;
  • PR Certification/Designation considered an asset;
  • Experience in publicly traded company an asset;
  • Relevant experience as a communications leader with exposure to multinational organizations;
  • Ability to liaise/manage communications programs in international locations;
  • Proven experience coaching to senior executives on media engagement and interview tactics;
  • Superior presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic corporate communications plans coordinated across multiple internal and external audiences;
  • Seasoned media spokesperson and public representative;
  • Established in media presence with contacts across the industry.
